Question:

Message Plz tell us about more real deed s specifically for month of ramadan beside prayers and reciting Qur'an?

Shoaib Ali

Answer:

My dear brother,

Have you ever thought about the reason we are celebrating Eid of Feter at the end of the month of Ramadhan?
Are we celebrating the fact that the month is over? I think this would be cruel.
Are we celebrating the fact that we managed to fast during the month? I think this can be a bit superficial.

What is it that we will be celebrating soon?
What is is that we are "supposed to" celebrate soon?

God says in al-Baqara 183 that fasting is written for us so that we may attain Taqwa. When a person attains Taqwa (awareness of God's presence in his life) he will change and will become a better person. All this fasting and the readings of the Qur'an and prayers are to attain this Taqwa.

We all have defects and weaknesses inside that are obstacles to Taqwa. Perhaps one thing we can do is to focus on a few of these (not all) and try to eliminate them by the end of the month. These defects and weaknesses maybe related to our relationship with our Lord, our relationship with our own soul, our relationship with other human beings or our relationship with the world. We need to allocate time to think about ourselves and to identify these defects and weaknesses.

Then we need to talk with our Lord and ask Him to help us to be better. Establishing a never ending "dialogue" with God is one of the most important things we can do in this month. A dialogue in which we talk with Him and we vividly hear His answer by noticing changes or new spiritual challenges. We can use all the worship that we do in this month as means to establish such dialogue and removing those selected number of defects and weaknesses from our souls and to reach a higher level of Taqwa as the result. Every act that can help in this endeavour can be called "a real deed". It is therefore not the "deeds" but the "attitude" that is important. It is the "attitude" (i.e. desire for change for the sake of the Almighty) that will naturally lead us to appropriate "deeds".

My dear brother, if we manage to change ourselves to a better servant of God by the end of this month, no matter how tiny the change might be, then we will have a good reason to celebrate Eid of Feter. We will then celebrate this change. We will then celebrate ourselves, a new Abdullah and a new Shoaib.
