Question:
Alsalamu alaykum,
I want to know the Islam's stand and opinion on masturbation, giving that at the dawn of Islam they had "Malikat alyameen" which is something that have vanished in our world today. Can we practice "Malikat alyameen" today?
thanks,
Gamal Elsabbagh
Answer:
Salaam brother
Many thanks for your queries. In reference to your first query about masturbation; the opinion of our scholars is that although there is no explicit directive of Shariah which forbids it to class it as a sin, it is considered an undesireable act which borders on obscenity. This sexual act of self gratification is completely contradictory to the Islamic spirit of purity and piety.

Your second query is about permissibility of "Malikat alyameen". As I understand " milk al-yameen" is referred to in Quran as "those whom your right hand possesses" or "ma malakat aymanukum", the term itself is normally considered to refer to (female) prisoners of war, or more broadly to slaves in general. In the opinion of our scholars, as we know, slavery was present in Arabia before the advent of Islam. Islam accepted slavery as a social vice, and gave directives for its gradual removal and ultimate extinction. Islam never promoted or favoured the institution of slavery. The institution of slavery no longer exists in the world, at least not openly, hence the question of keeping slave girls is now closed and is not applicable anymore.
