'Kabair' Sins

Question:
Salaam,
As you have written in one of your articles, on three occasions the Qur'an informs the believer that if He avoids the "kaabair", passing only into smaller faults, God would expel the evil out of such a person on the Day of Judgment and admit him to heaven. I have two questions:
- Do these verses comprise a guarantee? In other words, does God promise to do this or is it just a possibility?
- You write that "kabaair" implies big sins. What exactly comes under "Kaabair"? Are we dealing only with heinous crimes, such as shirk, murder, adultery, cheating the poor, etc. or more?
Thank you.

Answer:'Kabair'[1] are generally interpreted to be those sins, regarding which the Qur'an has mentioned the punishment of Hell fire.
The Qur'an has, indeed, mentioned that if a person lives a life which is clear of 'Kabair', then God, with His encompassing mercy, shall wash away his minor sins and 'slips' in the life of this world.
Some of the sins, which are clearly among the 'Kabair' are: Shirk (ascribing partners to God), rejection of the truth even after it has completely manifested itself, murder, fornication, falsely accusing a chaste person of sexual infidelity, knowingly depriving someone of his rights, bearing a false witness, knowingly committing injustice (while put in a position to decide), after accepting Islam, to ignore the obligations imposed upon by the Shari`ah or to knowingly sanction any of the express prohibitions of the Shari`ah.
I hope this helps.
