Assess Your Personality As a Muslim

Developed by Professor Muhammad Aqil and modified further by the UIUK Web Team.

God created the trial of life and death to assess who performs better in worship and submission to God (Al-Mulk 67:2). The fundamental requirement of this worship is to surrender to God's will and to not listen to the invitation of the Satan (Al-Nahl 16:36). However, He did not abandon man in this test but sent Prophets from time to time to teach wisdom to those in search of guidance and to cleanse them of all impurities (Al-Jumu'ah 62:2). The consequence of this purification is success in the hereafter whereas lack of purification would lead to failure (Al-Shams 91:9,10). In addition, He did not confine religion to a few specific beliefs, philosophies, or ideological discussions but provided a clear and categorical Law (The Shariah) for people to follow (Al-Jathiyah 45:18).

  • The basic purpose of this questionnaire is to make accessible at a glance, a comprehensive list of essential beliefs and good/bad deeds that are required/prohibited in our religion, based on Qur’an. We cannot claim that this encompasses every single obligation in Islam, as some obligations are corollaries of the ones mentioned here or discussed primarily in the Sunnah.
  • The second purpose is to divert the attention of an ordinary Muslim to religious obligations in a manner that not only retains his/her interest but also explains the concept easily.
  • Another purpose is to provide an insight into the level of one’s adherence to the religious obligations, in an objective manner to allow one to identify areas in need of improvement.
  • God shall provide every individual with a report of his/her deeds, in the hereafter, based on His divine knowledge. Only God is aware of the underlying basis of a person’s action and whether they are acceptable or not. The basis of this questionnaire is imperfect human knowledge; to compare it in any way to the report card of the hereafter would be an injustice to its author as well as the reader.

Salient Features of the Questionnaire:

  1. It quantifies the Islamic instructions and identifies their intensity.
  2. The scores given for each item are subjective; while some are obvious, there can be a difference of opinion in others.
  3. It informs an individual about the extent to which he/she follows the religious directives, in his/her own eyes, in the form of percentage values.
  4. It identifies the weak aspects in a Muslim's beliefs or deeds, thereby drawing attention to reform.
  5. It is based on the Qur'an for which, references have been provided.
  6. It does not belong to any specific sect or school of thought; its addressees are all Muslims.

Instructions for completing the Questionnaire:
Please answer each question in the following sections by clicking on the answer that applies to you. Each question has five possible answers in front of it, which are, 'Never', 'Sometimes', 'Often', 'Always' and, where required, 'Not Applicable'. The questions in the compulsory section on 'Faith' have only two possible answers, 'Yes’, and 'No'. Please click on the answer that applies to you or in the 'Not Applicable' box, if necessary. The software will automatically calculate the score for you. You will be shown your score at the end of each section. Upon completion, you will be shown a grand total of all sections added together.

If you are registered with UIUK please log in to your account before proceeding. Once you have completed the questionnaire a copy of your results will be sent to your registered email account. If you are not registered with us you can still complete the questionnaire and your results will be shown on the final screen but no copy will be saved. To register please use this link or 'Create an account' in the log in box on the right hand of this screen.

We suggest you use it once a month to monitor your progress.

Interpreting the Results:
This questionnaire has been modified from the original and questions based on non-obligatory directives have been removed; all of its components are based on directives that are obligatory in nature. Therefore, an individual needs to score 100%, a score less than that  implies that even in the eyes of the user, the chances of success are less than acceptable. If the score is less than 100%, we suggest the following conclusions and recommendations (they are based on the personal understanding of the author and there can be a difference of opinion about them):

  1. If the score is 81%-99.9%, we recommend corrective measures, the nature of which may become apparent after an analysis of the questionnaire and one's lifestyle.
  2. If the score is 51%-80%, then the situation is more serious. An analysis of one's life style would not be enough to rectify the situation and it is important to seek help from a pious friend or a religious scholar or guide; a strong will is also essential.
  3. If the score is 30%- 50%, you are in the Danger Zone. It implies that you are not following a very big part of the religion. You should re-visit your beliefs, faith and philosophy of life as such a low score does not represent just a lack of knowledge; rather, it represents a weakness of one's faith that can take one all the way to denial of God and hereafter.
  4. If the score is 21%-29%, then the situation is grave and you will need quite a lot of hard work to rectify it; delay or carelessness can lead to devastating results.
  5. If the score is 20% or less, then please carefully, read the humble advice given in points 3 and 4 above. In addition, a score under 20% implies that instead of following the directives of the religion you may be engaged in activities against those directives. You should consider if your faith is limited only to a verbal affirmation.
